Expenses
A spreadsheet is useful only if the transactions made it across.
Compare extracted rows with the source statement. Check opening and closing balances where applicable, signs, dates and missing or duplicate transactions. A tidy spreadsheet is not evidence that reconciliation is complete.
Put the answer to work
Check the tool’s supported inputs and limits before uploading. Account and plan requirements may apply. See plans.
Should identical rows be deleted?
Only after checking the source. Repeated amounts can be real transactions, while duplicated extraction can repeat an entire row. Compare dates, descriptions and balances before removing anything.
How WorkSpotHQ helps
Bank Statement → Excel
Use Bank Statement to Excel with the complete statement. Open the resulting workbook and compare the transaction rows with the PDF. Investigate missing rows and debit/credit differences before importing the data elsewhere.
Your next steps
- Confirm all statement pages were included.
- Check transaction dates versus posting dates and the currency.
- Compare debit, credit and amount signs on representative rows.
- Investigate missing rows and reconcile balances where the statement supports it.
What this looks like in practice
Two identical amounts on consecutive dates can be legitimate separate transactions. Do not delete one solely because the values match.
A fictional balance check
| Item | Value or document | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Opening balance | 1,000 | Starting point |
| Credit | +200 | Money received |
| Debit | −50 | Money spent |
| Closing balance | 1,150 | 1,000 + 200 − 50 |
If the exported rows yield a different balance, check omissions and signs. Matching balances help, but can still hide two offsetting errors; inspect individual transactions too.

Before you call it done
Credit-card balances and bank-account balances use different conventions. Pending items, fees and carry-forward entries may explain differences.
